Looking for a new smartphone this Cyber Monday? You'll need a little geek intervention to land that perfect device. In this post I put my brand loyalties on hold and recommend the top three smartphones by carrier.
AT&T
| 1. Apple iPhone 4: The retina display, thanks to its high pixel density, makes anything you look at, whether watching video or reading the New York Times, quite literally, an unrivaled experience. It's worth noting, thanks to Antennagate, this smartphone drops more calls than Steve Jobs has black turtle necks. |
| 2. Samsung Focus: Samsung's first Windows 7 device is packed with a gorgeous 4-inch AMOLED screen that renders more vibrant, life-like color than that of a standard smartphone screen. Windows 7 Phone is still young, but provides a solid alternative to those sick of the mainstream Apple, Android, RIM monotony. |
| 3. Blackberry Torch: Nothing revolutionary here, but RIM finally brought a usable touchscreen device to the masses...along with a much needed upgrade to the Blackberry OS. |
Verizon
| 1. Droid X: Behind the gorgeous 4.3-inch screen lives a feature set that catapults this phone in the running for best smartphone of 2010, not to mention call quality that blows the competition out of the water. | |
| 2. HTC Incredible: Close second to the Droid X. Verizon customers looking for all the speed of the Droid X, without the cumbersome size, should look no further. This Android phone is as billed: incredible. | |
3. Blackberry 9650: Nothing new here, but if you need high speed internet on Verizon, and love the Blackberry interface, this will make you a happy camper.
T-Mobile
1. Samsung Vibrant: This AMOLED screen is in the running with the HTC EVO, and Samsung Focus, for best 4-incher out there. The AMOLED screen makes for a more vibrant (no pun intended), life-like color experience than that of the standard (LCD) smartphone screen.
2. Mytouch 4g: If cruising the web fast is your fancy, look no further. 4G stands for the fourth generation of data speed. Every generation speeds get faster. To give you an idea, if you were to download a 4mb audio file on 3G it would take 21 seconds, opposed to 5 seconds on 4G (visualize other comparisons).
3. HTC G2: This is T-Mobile's update to the G1, and they made good on all the promises the first device left desired. You'll find the best voice quality on the network, a great camera for photo and video, and amazing battery life.
Sprint
1. HTC EVO: If you dig large screens and can deal with the lackluster battery life, this is probably the best smartphone of 2010, thanks to its 4G speeds.
2. Samsung Epic: Same amazing AMOLED screen as its sister from another mother, the Samsung Vibrant. Which means you'll get a more life-like color than that of standard smartphone screen, coupled with 4G speed and a physical keyboard, making it more ideal for streaming YouTube and other media.
3. Blackberry 9650: Nothing new here, but if you need high speed internet on Sprint, and love the blackberry interface this will make you a happy camper.
