The display itself has been enhanced, too: the Kindle now has a 6-inch E-Ink Pearl display, one of whose benefits is 50 percent better contrast. In use, the difference in the screen contrast is striking: blacks look more solid, and text looked smoother.
The screen and the contrast has been improved. Amazon claims the new screen is 50 per cent better in contrast than any other ebook reader. That doesn't mean you are going to get a book feel with cream pages, just that it will be easier to read.
Amazon says it's a 50 percent boost in contrast; stats aside, the clarity of text makes what was a good reading device even better, largely mitigating the grayish background of the screen display. The new Kindle also offers more flexibility in font size, spacing and words per line.
The company claims it has upped the contrast by 50 percent over the last Kindle. Whatever the actual percentage, the effect is dramatic—text and photos looks sharper and clearer...it is the sharpest e-ink display I've seen.
Amazon has improved the clarity of an already excellent display and increasing the refresh rate for a slicker experience. The Kindle uses the new E Ink Pearl panel, and it's just as comfortable on the eyes as words on a page, even in direct sunlight.
More than one of the people we showed it to assumed that it still had a fake display sticker on it and were amazed that it was actually on and that this was the real display.
If you look carefully you can see ghost text from the previous screen, but the effect is no more noticeable than the show-through you get form a real book.

E-reader's with e-ink displays are great for outdoor reading, LCD screens aren't nearly as good. We use (E-Ink = Great, LCD = Ok) to calculate this.
