Everyone who owns a G-series Canon loves it. I loved the G11 I borrowed so much that I didn't even bother with an SLR.

I like this camera a lot. It's what I'd reach for whenever I wouldn't feel like tugging along a honkin' DSLR, and I'd feel like I wasn't sacrificing too much. The real question, I think, it how it stacks up against Panasonic's Lumix LX3.... If you do buy the G11, you won't regret it—you'll be too busy taking pictures.

Perhaps the most notable thing about the G11 is that Canon has stopped playing the numbers game and is trusting the camera's target audience to realize that there's more to digital photography than ever increasing helpings of megapixels with each successive product.

The G11 is a wonderful combination of a lens with very good optical performance, good auto focus and shutter performance, and lowered resolution on the same physical-sized sensor that produces excellent noise performance for a compact digital.

The G11 all of has the build quality, features and performance for which the G-series is rightly renowned, and the image quality is as good as a small-sensor compact is ever likely to get. Restored to its rightful place, the G11 is one of the two or three best compacts currently available.

The Canon PowerShot G11 is a powerful camera that includes a lot of features. In many ways, it is more of an SLR camera than a point and shoot.

Ultimately, the Canon PowerShot G11 is the G10 done better, with better low-light performance, better control over noise, an articulating screen, great battery life, and the same great lens. It's a sure Dave's Pick.

The G11 is DSLR-expensive, but you can't fault the pictures it takes.

That’s not to say the G11 is a poor camera – on the contrary it’s a really nice piece of kit.... But we believe much of its target audience would be better-served by a Micro Four Thirds model, or an alternative PowerShot such as the G10, S90 or even SX20 IS.

It may not be the smallest camera out there (in fact it's one of the largest to use such a small sensor), but, if you can live with the compromises this all-round ability brings, then there's little that can touch it.

For those who do prefer that extra flexibility to "push" the image without resorting to the use of flash, the G11 is a solid contender in every sense.

Though it doesn't offer the whizziest new features like an interchangeable lens or a tiny size, the Canon PowerShot G11 still delivers a good shooting experience for photography enthusiasts. Plus it's the only model that includes an optical viewfinder.
