The Nikon D300 isn’t the perfect camera, but it’s close.
It's not often that I review a camera actually lives up to the manufacturer's hype -- and the D300 does exactly that.
The D2X/Xs and D200 are still the great cameras they always were, but the D300 is just better. Maybe that's why Nikon ad copy makes no mention of anything other than "professional" when talking about the D300.
All in all, the D300 is one of the best digital cameras ever tested in WDC.

Nikon's biggest problem now will be bettering the D300; it raises the bar to a new high, and represents the state of the art despite strong competition from the likes of Canon, Sony and Olympus. There's simply no better semi-professional digital SLR on the market.
Visibly better photo quality and slightly improved performance make the Nikon D300 a significant upgrade over the D200 and an excellent all-around choice.
