The XBR-HX909 delivered some of the deepest shades of black...on any display, darker than the other local dimming sets.... It also handled 1080p/24 sources well. Its other issues however, namely excessive blooming, color drift over time, and a bluish cast to the image, spoiled its chance to unseat the best LCD and plasmas available.
The Wonderland scenes in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland looked spectacular on the Sony. Its retrieval of detail and color were outstanding.
The TV had incredible picture quality overall.
Among the faults detected were too much contrast in a couple of scenes, and yellowish skin tones in our football clip. When the set was called upon to upconvert a DVD to 1080p, faces had a slightly artificial, oil-painting look to them. But the [XBR-HX909] handled motion well.
If part of the image is in deep shadow or totally black, the dimming will reinforce the darkness. Basically, the TV can produce darker darks, which makes colors seem richer.... The direct-lit [HX909] does indeed deliver a vibrant colorful image when displaying 2D content.

Gaming show formula
Refresh Rate is the most important characteristic for gaming.
Next we factor in the screen type. LCDs are the best because they have the highest resolution. Plasmas have lower resolution and are prone to "burn-in," and OLEDs have the lowest resolution.
Lastly we add our Picture Quality score to complete the picture.
